After some trial and error and a little Google searching I've finally managed to get the smtp.me.com server working for Mail from my me.com account.
For those of you still having issues here is what you might want to try.
Go into Mail and then preferences. Once there you'll want to click on the accounts tab and select your MobileMe IMAP account. Next make sure Account Information is selected. Now click Edit Server List... from the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) menu.
In the drop down box that has now appeared make sure your MobileMe account is selected. Click on the advanced tab. Server port is the option you want to change. Now there are a few options that this might need to be set to for your outgoing mail server to work so you'll just have to test and see which setting works for you.
Settings to try are Server Port 25 (this is the one that worked for me), or 587. From what I can tell 587 means a secure connection to the mail server while 25 might not be. 587 however just wouldn't work for me.
